Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP)

Description:

What is the EPWP?

The Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) is one of the many programmes offered by the Western Cape Government and the National Department of Public Works. The EPWP aims to provide poverty and income relief through temporary work for the unemployed to carry out socially useful activities at the EPWP.

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) facilitates work opportunities and capacity building through programmes aimed at youth acquiring skills to facilitate their entry into the job market. The EPWP beneficiaries work in various places in the districts of the Western Cape, changing their young lives for the better.

What does the EPWP aim to do?

  • To bring the unemployed into a temporary working environment
  • The unemployed will obtain skills and gain work experience
  • The unemployed will receive a stipend (allowance)
  • To enhance their chances of future employment and/or trigger their "entrepreneurial spirit".
Who qualifies to work on EPWP projects?
  • Unemployed individuals
  • Unskilled individuals
  • Women
  • Youth (16-35)
  • Disabled persons
  • Adult men

DCAS gives people the opportunity to participate in the EPWP activities. Communities should encourage the youth to use these opportunities to reach their full potential. Let us nurture and develop the skills of our youth, BETTER TOGETHER.
