Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, has strongly condemned the killing of ANC ward councillor, Aubrey Tsengwa, in Knysna on Wednesday evening, 19 August 2026.
Minister Marais extended her deepest condolences to Mr Tsengwa`s family, friends, and colleagues. “I strongly condemn this brutal, senseless killing,” she stressed.
“I welcome the deployment of the SAPS Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit to investigate this matter. Every possible avenue must be followed so that those responsible can be identified, arrested, and brought to justice,” said Minister Marais.
Minister Marais added, “While the exact motive of this crime is still under investigation, it must be noted that Mr Tsengwa’s murder comes at an increasingly sensitive political period as we approach the local government elections. We must be vigilant against any form of political violence.”
