Minister Marais applaudes operational successes in Mitchells Plain
Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, has commended recent efforts to combat gang-related violence in Mitchells Plain and other areas through coordinated and targeted interventions led by the South African Police Service (SAPS), in partnership with Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP) officers and the City of Cape Town's Metro Police.
These efforts have significantly reduced gang-related shootings in Mitchells Plain and surrounding communities, demonstrating the power of sustained, integrated policing operations.
These operations led to the confiscation of more than 50 unlicensed firearms and ammunition during the month of July, a remarkable achievement.
Minister Marais said, “I commend the SAPS, City of Cape Town Metro Police, LEAP officers and community-based structures for their relentless work, commitment, and bravery in achieving these results. I also wish to thank residents for their continued support for our law enforcement agencies. Every resident who came forward with information and tip-offs that directly led to the seizure of these illegal firearms made a valuable contribution in saving lives,” she added.
“Continued joint operations and the sharing of intelligence must remain at the core of our crime-fighting strategy,” Minister Marais concluded.
