Department of Police Oversight and Community Safety

Peace Officer

Cloetesville, Kayamandi set to benefit from new Stellenbosch Municipality Peace Officer Graduates

12 December 2025

The Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, proudly celebrated the graduation of 19 new Peace Officers, along with 6 existing employees from the Stellenbosch Municipality, who last night successfully completed the Department’s Law Enforcement Support (LES) Programme.

These additional Peace Officers will play a vital role in maintaining law and order, supporting SAPS, and contributing to safer communities for all residents in areas like Cloetesville, Kayamandi and Stellenbosch. These additional resources will assist with addressing gang violence and gun-related crimes.

Minister Marais said, “This achievement is an example of what is possible when provincial government collaborates with municipalities to strengthen safety at a local level. These new Peace Officers are not only enhancing law enforcement visibility in Cloetesville, Kayamandi and Stellenbosch, but they are also building trust, improving safety, and helping create a community where residents and university students can thrive."

"This is more than a training programme. It is a pathway to employment, to dignity, and to a meaningful career. Each graduate’s success reflects hope, commitment, and progress. I am incredibly proud of every one of them for stepping forward to serve our communities", Minister Marais concluded.

The increased visibility of these peace officers will strengthen community trust, enhance safety efforts, and provide vital support to local law enforcement structures. This milestone was made possible through collaboration between the Western Cape Department of Police Oversight and Community Safety and the Stellenbosch Municipality.

Through gazetted funding, the Department contracted the City of Cape Town’s accredited Public Safety Training College (PSTC) to deliver the SASETTA-accredited training modules. The PSTC brings exceptional expertise in public safety and law enforcement, ensuring that officers are trained to the highest possible standard. Each graduate received two SAQA-accredited certificates.

The Western Cape Government will continue to strengthen law enforcement capacity in all municipalities in the province.
