Vacancy: Social Auxiliary Workers/Youth Care Workers

The Street Coaches Programme (which is a project of the Western Cape Government) is looking for dedicated Social Auxiliary Workers / Youth Workers to join the Street Coaches Programme. 

The Street Coaches Programme is a community based youth development intervention that deploys trained mentors into communities to identify, engage, and support youth at risk. Through outreach, mentoring, psychosocial support, referrals, and life skills support, Street Coaches help youth build resilience, access opportunities, and reduce their vulnerability to social challenges such as unemployment, substance abuse, and crime.


Successful applicants will be based in Mfuleni, Mitchells Plain and Bishop Lavis/Bonteheuwel and will be contracted for a period of 24 months under the Street Coaches Programme. A total of 36 Street Coaches will be appointed (inclusive of 3 administrators and 3 co-ordinators).

 Applicants from the targeted areas will be given preference. Street Coaches will not be employed by the Western Cape Government and will be appointed by an external service provider, who will be responsible for managing all employment conditions. Remuneration will be aligned with programme funding and approved rates.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate;
  • Registered as a Social Auxiliary Worker with the South African Council for Social Service Profession;
  • Recognised qualification in Youth Care (minimum NQF Level 5);
  • Minimum 3 years experience in youth intervention programmes at community level;
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, travel within communities and work with multidisciplinary teams;
  • Computer literacy and Report writing;
  • No criminal record;
  • Access to own vehicle will be an added advantage.

Deadline: 28 August 2026
Pay: R8 000 per month
