MOD Programme

MOD Programme
Live MOD. Be MOD. We Are MOD.

Transforming Afternoons. Unlocking Futures.

Every afternoon, across the Western Cape, thousands of young people arrive at a MOD Centre.
•    Some come to play sport.
•    Some come to dance, sing or perform.
•    Some come to spend time with friends.
•    Many come because they know there is a coach who believes in them.

The MOD Programme creates safe, structured and fun after-school spaces where learners can grow, develop new skills and discover their potential through sport, arts, recreation and life skills.
Today, more than 75,000 learners participate in MOD activities across 315 centres throughout the province.

More Than An After-School Programme
MOD is about creating opportunities.
•    Opportunities to learn.
•    Opportunities to belong.
•    Opportunities to lead.
•    Opportunities to dream bigger.
The programme recognises that young people need more than academic success to thrive. They need positive relationships, meaningful experiences and spaces where they can develop confidence, resilience and a sense of purpose.
That is what MOD provides every day.

What Happens at a MOD Centre?
Every MOD Centre offers a unique combination of activities based on the interests and needs of learners and their communities.

Sport
Through sport, learners develop teamwork, discipline, leadership and perseverance while building healthy and active lifestyles.

Arts and Culture
Music, dance, drama and creative expression provide opportunities for learners to build confidence, celebrate their identity and discover their talents.

Recreation
Fun and inclusive recreational activities encourage participation, friendship and enjoyment while developing important social skills.

Life Skills
Every session helps learners develop communication, leadership, problem-solving, emotional resilience and decision-making skills that support success both inside and outside the classroom.

The MOD Difference
What makes MOD unique is not only what we do, but how we do it.
Every session follows the MOD Flow – a simple seven-step routine designed to create belonging, build relationships and support positive youth development.

1.    Welcome
Creating a sense of belonging from the moment a learner arrives.
2.    Check-In
Giving learners a voice and helping them connect with others.
3.    Energiser
Building energy, excitement and participation.
4.    Breathing
Teaching young people how to manage stress and regulate emotions.
5.    Play
Developing skills, confidence and teamwork through meaningful activities.
6.    Check-Out
Encouraging reflection and celebrating progress.
7.    Announcements
Creating anticipation and connecting learners to future opportunities.

Together, these moments create environments where young people feel safe, valued and supported.

Caring Adults Change Lives
At the heart of every MOD Centre is a coach.

MOD coaches are more than facilitators.
•    They are mentors.
•    Role models.
•    Encouragers.
•    Trusted adults.

For many learners, a coach becomes the person who notices their strengths, challenges them to grow and helps them believe in what is possible.

Sometimes changing a life starts with something as simple as a conversation, a word of encouragement or someone showing up consistently.

Creating Pathways To Opportunity
MOD is where journeys begin.

Learners who participate in the programme gain access to opportunities that extend far beyond the school day.

Through MOD, young people are connected to:
•    School sport programmes
•    Arts festivals and showcases
•    Community clubs
•    Leadership opportunities
•    Provincial and national competitions
•    Skills development pathways

Many learners who started at MOD Centres have gone on to represent their schools, communities, the Western Cape and South Africa.

Building Stronger Communities
MOD Centres are more than programme sites.
They are community hubs.
Places where schools, families, coaches, community organisations and partners work together to support young people.
•    Every learner engaged.
•    Every coach developed.
•    Every partnership formed.
Every opportunity created.

Contributes to stronger, safer and more connected communities across the Western Cape.

Join The MOD Movement
The future of the Western Cape will be shaped by the young people we invest in today.
MOD is investing in that future by creating spaces where learners can belong, grow and thrive.
A place to belong.
A skill to develop.
A mentor to believe in you.
A pathway to opportunity.
Live MOD. Be MOD. We Are MOD.
