The Western Cape Government mourns the loss of Cornal Hendricks

The Western Cape Government mourns the sudden passing of Cornal Hendricks, former Springbok and Bulls rugby player, who died on 14 May 2025 at the age of 37.

Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Ricardo Mackenzie, expressed his deep condolences, “Cornal Hendricks was more than just an exceptional rugby player; he was a symbol of resilience and determination. His journey from Wellington’s Bergrivier High School to the international rugby stage inspired countless young athletes across our province and nation. Despite facing a serious heart condition that interrupted his career, Cornal made a remarkable return to professional rugby, showcasing his unwavering spirit.”

His contributions to the sport, especially during his tenure with the Bulls and his representation of the Springboks, have left an indelible mark on South African rugby.

As a government, we extend our heartfelt sympathies to his family, friends, and the broader rugby community during this difficult time.

May his legacy continue to inspire future generations.
