Western Cape Government expresses condolences on passing of Khoi and San cultural activist
The Western Cape Government is saddened to hear of the passing of Cynthia Triegardt over the past weekend.
Cynthia Triegardt has been instrumental in leading actions to champion for the rights of San and Khoi people in the country and had been staying outside the Union Buildings in Pretoria for this cause.
The provincial Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Ricardo Mackenzie, said: “Cynthia Triegardt has always demonstrated her pride in and commitment to advocating for the rights, culture and heritage of the San and Khoi people. I am grateful for all she has done to ensure that we do not lose a fundamental part of South Africa’s cultural value and traditions by amplifying the voice of San and Khoi culture and ensuring that none are left behind as we embark on new ways of imagining a shared nationhood and a more inclusive form of development.”
We offer our heartfelt condolences to her family, with her passing. Her legacy will live on for many years to come.
