About Grabouw Thusong

Grabouw is located about 65km outside Cape Town, in the Elgin Valley, which stretches between the Hottentots-Holland, Kogelberg and Groenland mountains. What first started out as farming town, has blossomed and expanded over the years, and is home to quite a diverse community.

Grabouw has become the commercial centre for the Elgin Valley and is the largest single fruit producer in South Africa.

The town was first created on the farm "Grietjiesgat", owned by painter Wilhelm Langschmidt, who started the community around his wife's little trading store.

He named the town after the German village of Grabouw, where he was born.
