The Thembalethu Library e-Centre launched on 1 March 2012. This centre accommodates the community of Thembalethu, which is home to two high schools and four primary schools.
The project promotes the use of information and communications technology (ICT) among under-privileged community members in the Thembalethu area. The e-centre accommodates disabled users and serves approximately 400 community members a month, including learners from the surrounding schools. The services and resources of the centre are so popular that we are often packed to capacity.
Among the many positive impacts of the centre are:
- children under the age of eight are able to use computers.
- young people are able to apply for tertiary education.
- community members setting up have e-mail accounts.
We have also assisted community members with job searches, CVs and application forms.
