Survey to map sustainability activity and awareness in the private sector in Africa

8 April 2019

Mazars and KudosAfrica have launched an initiative that seeks to map sustainability activity and awareness in the private sector in Africa.

One of the biggest challenges when assessing Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance performance at fund or asset level is the lack of available data for benchmarking purposes. In an effort to start mapping this unchartered territory, a research project was launched in 2017. The Kudos Impact Pulse is a short survey to find out what unlisted African businesses are doing to support a healthier planet and stronger societies. They have selected 17 of the most important environmental and social issues for African businesses and ask how they are being managed. These have been flagged by international investors as top priorities and are increasingly being incorporated into deal-making processes. Read more about it here.

The project has enjoyed considerable success to date and the data is being applied throughout the economy in dedicated impact funds as well as increasingly in the application of investment decision making in more traditional private equity funds. Last years’ results can be viewed here.

With the support of a number of new partners, Kudos Impact Pulse is growing this valuable resource, ensuring that a more valuable data-set is developed by including as wide a spectrum of business as possible. Your assistance with contributing to this exercise is crucial to the growing awareness of ESG value creation in companies and funds across Africa.

To take part, please complete this short survey. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

A company-specific report will be created for every respondent who completes the survey. This report will map your company’s activity against the aggregated response, industry and regional specific data as well as indicating where companies are already triggering the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These reports will be available early next year and are free of charge.
