Call for Applications under Natural Resources

Technology Innovation Agency (TIA, organisation) an entity of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) was established in terms of the TIA Act, 2008 (Act No. 26 of 2008), with the objective to stimulate, intensify and exploit technological innovation to improve economic growth and the quality of life of all South Africans.


TIA is calling for the submission of funding applications for projects in the Natural Resources business unit, focusing primarily on these sectors:

  • Waste sector covering the following subsectors: - e-Waste and Waste beneficiation
  • Water sector covering the following subsectors:- Acid Mine Drainage (AMD), Water purification, water saving and repairing water leakages.
  • The completed proposals must be submitted through the portal on or before 30 September 2018. Late applications will not be accepted.

The Compulsory briefing sessions will be conducted to facilitate and assist applicants to understand the TIA application requirements. The briefing sessions will take place at TIA offices on the following dates; (Gauteng – 27 August 2018); (Durban – 28 August 2018); (Cape Town – 29 August 2018), from 10h00 to 16h00.

Individuals who are interested to attend the compulsory briefing session, must send through a confirmation email, to Ms. Nelisa Kente on and/ or Ms. Mbali Mondlana on, by no later than the 20th August 2018.
