Greening Initiatives at Witsand, Atlantis
Green Communities commits to raise funds to implement the greening of 200 houses at Witsand, Atlantis informal settlement by the end of 2016.
By planting gardens with indigenous ground coverings, shrubs and grass will stabilise the soil and avoid further soil erosion, whilst also serving as natural wind barriers as they grow.
Promoting food security and vegetable gardening as a means of motivating economic development each household will also receive a choice of vegetables for their own garden, thereby supporting the supply of fresh produce to the local community.
We commit to host a series of hands-on educational workshops within the community to promote food security and recycling, composting and conservation of biodiversity.
