City of Cape Town Water Services

Description:

The local authority is responsible for controlling the water supply to houses in the area.

The City provides tips on how to save water and information on the free water service.

The City of Cape Town provides weekly information on the water levels at the following dams:

  • Wemmershoek
  • Lower Steenbras
  • Upper Steenbras
  • Voelvlei
  • Theewaterskloof

The City is also responsible for ensuring the quality of water. As part of this responsibility they:

  • investigate and respond to public complaints and concerns regarding water quality
  • promote and emphasise the health importance of water supply services to informal communities located within the City of Cape Town
  • take water samples and analyse this to find out what bacteria and chemicals are in the water
  • investigate the possible causes of water pollution and take action to resolve the problem
