World Maritime Day Celebrations in Saldanha

Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works together with the National Department of Transport will celebrate World Maritime Day at Club Mykonos in Saldanha on 25 September 2014.

Every year, during the last week of September, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) celebrates World Maritime Day.

The IMO is the United Nations specialised agency responsible for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine pollution by ships.

The South African celebrations which includes an awards ceremony and a gala dinner will be hosted by the National Minister of Transport, Dipuo Peters. The Western Cape Minister of Transport and Public Works, Donald Grant will be co-hosting the event.

World Maritime Day 2014 will be celebrated at the IMO Headquarters in London, on Thursday, 25 September 2014, with parallel events hosted by various countries across the globe.

Key maritime stakeholders such as the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA), Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA), Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), Grinrod Shipping Company, Smit Amandla and departments within the Western Cape Government will take part in the South African celebrations.
