A Proud Team Western Cape Government at Cape Town Corporate Games

12 June 2013

The winners of the 2012 Better Together Games participated in a selection of fun sporting activities at the second annual Cape Town Corporate Games from 7 - 9 June 2013.

About 60 participants represented the Western Cape Government in the multi-sport festival, hosted by the V&A Waterfront. Various private and corporate organisations supported the event.

Out of over 40 organisations, Team Western Cape finished in an impressive eighth place in the medallist table, with 22 medals (nine gold and 13 bronze). Sanlam topped the group with 71 medals (30 gold, 25 silver and 16 bronze).

Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) employee Mr Colin Cedras, who captained our side in the soccer 5s, said it felt good to take off his shoes and replace them with soccer boots. “Our team enjoyed participating on a sporting and a social level. We’ve made many friends and the unifying atmosphere created happy memories,” said Mr Cedras.

Ms Nicole Visser of Cape Town Corporate Games said that the activities brought corporates together in a relaxed environment. “Across the multi-sports weekend, participants enjoyed the camaraderie and competition. Having participants from different sectors and walks of life was very important to ensure that the event allowed participants to engage in friendly rivalry,” she said. Visser added that she and her team mates hope that it would become an annual event.

The Corporate Games encourages healthier lifestyles and fitness and promotes a healthy team spirit. Those who are usually dressed up formally had the opportunity to compete and show their sporting skills.
