Project Description
C958.04: Repair and Resurfacing of Victoria Road (MR103) Km 2.1 to Km 4.75, Near Llandudno
Construction Progress
Eighty-four percent (84%) of the value of the work has been completed. This includes the complete resurfacing of the roadway. Most of the centreline road marking has been completed and the shoulder lines and the quite complex island marking near the Llandudno turnoff will be tackled this week. Strong wind can delay this operation as it tends to blow the paint around. The Contractor will not be on site at all on Friday so as to give visitors and cyclists full use of the roadway. Last Friday an inspection of the roadway way was carried out with the organiser of the Cape Town Cycle Tour and he was satisfied with the condition of the roadway.
Possible Delays
Road and Access Closures
The road marking will not necessitate any stop/go road closures as it can be done with either shoulder closures and/or lane shifts, all clearly marked with delineators. Once again, the delineators being used to define the temporary carriageways have had the positive effect of slowing traffic down. Nevertheless, speeding vehicles are still an ongoing concern. Weather permitting, the road marking could be 100% complete by the end of Thursday. The Cape Town Cycle Tour organiser stated that should it not be complete it would not pose any problems for the cyclists. Tidying up of surplus premix, the removal of stones from the roadway and general tidying up along the roadway will continue this week.
The placing of road studs (cats eyes), the lining of defective storm water pipes under the road, the replacing of damaged poles and the realigning of bad sections of the guardrails and work at the slip repair near the Llandudno turnoff will continue until the end of April.
General Traffic Accommodation
The following is the programme for the week:
Interesting Facts
The road marking on this project will use approximately 600 litres of paint and 720 kg of tiny reflective glass beads (the size of grains of fine salt) that are placed onto the paint whilst it is still wet in order to make it more reflective.
