The Mass participation; Opportunity and access; Development and growth Programme (MOD), is one of the flagship initiatives of the Western Cape Government and gives the city a massive opportunity to use design to promote social and economic inclusion.

The theme for this project is "Bridging the Divide – Design that reconnects our city and reconciles communities". To make this theme a reality and address historical inequities, 181 MOD centres were established across the Western Cape. These centres offer innovate after-school programmes that provide physiological, psychological and spiritual development, thus contributing to the holistic well-being of the learners.

Recreational activities that are offered to the more than 48 000 registered participants are various sports and opportunities with a design element, such as music, drama, dance and the arts. MOD has expanded significantly since its introduction in 2010 and now provides employment and skills development to over 700 community workers across the province.
