National Assembly congratulates Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital on ground breaking surgery performed
Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital and Groote Schuur Hospital received formal congratulations from the National Assembly on having performed ground breaking, lifesaving surgery on an infant.
In a letter from Speaker Baleka Mbete following a motion of congratulations passed in parliament, it was noted that a team of twenty five doctors and nurses from Groote Schuur and Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, showed tremendous skill and care when saving the life of an unborn child, Kiara Louw
Speaking at the ground breaking event, marking the construction of the upgrades to the emergency centre at Red Cross Hospital earlier this week, Kiara Louw’s mother, Sasha, thanked the hospital and the Children’s Hospital Trust for saving her child’s life. She was in tears as she shared her moving story of how a scan revealed that her unborn baby suffered from Congenital High Airway Obstruction Syndrome. All her hopes and dreams were shattered when they were told what to expect when the baby is born. “But with the help of this wonderful team of doctors and nurses here at Red Cross, my daughter is alive today” said Sasha.
“Our health professionals work day and night providing the best possible care to save the lives of many of our littlest patients. Families travel across the country to this facility for lifesaving treatment. Many families leave here in despair; many leave here with relief. We commend all our dedicated staff members for providing them with hope. The Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital and Groote Schuur Hospital have established an international reputation for excellence in healthcare, offering a comprehensive range of specialist services. ” said Minister Mbombo
