WC DSD Upskills Cape Flats Youth

11 December 2018

Today, at the I am Passion Youth Café in Mitchells Plain, the Minister of Social Development, Albert Fritz, briefed 78 young people on Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) internship opportunities offered by the Western Cape Department of Social Development (DSD). The internships are facilitated through the Western Cape DSD Youth at Work Program which aims to upskill young people. Additional funding was received for this through the recent budget adjustments. Included in this increase is the allocation of R1.45 million for youth programmes which prioritise job and employment preparation interventions.

MEC Fritz said, “As government we are committed to creating opportunities for youth. Young people have a responsibility to use the opportunities available to advance themselves.  Our internships will run for 4 months, and are intended to improve employability and give our interns exposure to the world of work. The successful candidates will be placed throughout the various DSD programmes in the Western Cape, including Youth Cafés.”

MEC Fritz added, “All of the candidates have already been interviewed and I look forward to my Department contacting the successful candidates. I wish each young person who showed up to the challenge of applying every success in their future.”

The Ministry of Social Development in the Western Cape, under the leadership of Albert Fritz, remains committed to empowering vulnerable youth.
