Mayor Helen Zille and the Ambassador of Switzerland, Viktor Christen,will officially open the exhibition on human rights, "The Face of Human Rights" installed on the Concourse Level of the Civic Centre which runs from 1 February until 21 February 2007. The opening coincides with the Mayor's Welcome Reception for Parliamentarians on the same day.

Human rights and its violations have many faces. The exhibition attempts to capture these and demonstrates the various facets of this subject. The photographs illustrate specific subjects linked to human rights such as the right to life, the prohibition of discrimination, the right tofood, the right to health, the right to housing, the protection of private life, the freedom of thought and belief, the right to education,the right to work, the protection of property, the right to a fair trialand the prohibition of torture, political rights and freedom of expression and the rights of refugees and displaced persons.

The exhibition is a journey through the landscape of human rights andhuman right violations. It documents the moment, without passingjudgement and calls on the public to come to terms with the different facets of human rights.
