City Streets, Public Places and Public Nuisance By-Law Referred for Further Public Participation
23 June 2006
SOURCE: City of Cape Town
On 31 May 2006 the Cape Town Council adopted the by-law relating to Streets, Public Places and the Prevention of Public Nuisance.

All by-laws are required to be published promptly and steps were taken to comply. The by-law was published on the 23 June 2006, in the Provincial Gazette.

Whilst the business community and the Central Street People's Forum, which encompasses 25 NGOs, endorsed the by-law, the City has received a number of appeals for further public participation. Some members of the public have argued that the by-law is too lenient while others have argued it is too stringent.

The City has therefore decided to refer the by-law for further public participation and comment before implementing it.
