Acting Premier Leonard Ramatlakane says "although this will be a protected strike for members of these unions, the principle of no work no pay still applies.
Referring to employees of the Provincial Administration of the Western Cape, their unions are expected to have submitted formal requests in time for their members to participate in the strike.
Members, whose unions did not follow the necessary procedures, must be aware that they are participating in an unprotected strike and therefore disciplinary actions will be taken against them.
"We wish to reiterate that at no stage did the Western Cape Education Department take a decision that schools will be closed as a result of the strike.
These reports are untrue. We have a responsibility to ensure that learning continues and that minimum disruption occurs."
MEC for Education, Cameron Dugmore, said: "I am calling on all governing bodies to assist by having a presence at schools on Thursday. Our department will be monitoring each and every school through our circuit managers and EMDC directors.
Any decision on the closure of a school will only be made on Thursday should the strike proceed and should effective learning be rendered impossible.
With regard to members of the South African police services, they are regarded "as an essential part to service delivery on this day and therefore are not expected to participate in the strike"
"Those members intending to take part in the strike, can only do so in their private capacity and in no police uniform. They will also be expected to have taken the necessary formal procedures to get permission."
The Provincial Government of the Western Cape is however hopeful that a settlement will be reached.
