Statement by Ricardo Wessels, Acting Spokesperson for the Premier of the Western Cape, Marthinus van Schalkwyk, 5 November 2003

The Western Cape Government is discussing with a Provincial Development Council (PDC)-team the creation of a forum for social interaction and coordinated action in which the following partners will be represented: government, labour, business and civil society.

The government is not engaging with Cosatu, but the PDC of which Mr. Tony Ehrenreich is a member.

The Western Cape Government is committed to discussing this issue with the PDC. After Mr. Ehrenreich left the meeting, the meeting with the PDC continued in a constructive spirit. The government will continue to discuss the issue with the PDC. It is for the PDC to decide on the future inclusion of Mr. Ehrenreich in their delegation.
