MEC Richard Dyantyi was born on the 25th of October 1968 in the oldest town in the Eastern Cape, Burgersdorp. His home language is isiXhosa and he is also proficient in English, Afrikaans and Sotho.The MEC had a combination of rural and urban schooling and matriculated in 1989 from All Saints College, Bisho. He acquired Associate In Management from the University of Cape Town's Graduate School of Business and is currently busy with a Marketing and Sales Management Diploma from Peninsula Technikon. He is widely skilled and formally trained in a various range of disciplines ranging from project management to human resources to local government policy as well as conflict resolution. MEC Dyantyi has a long record of activism and leadership within youth structures. He was elected as Secretary of Young Christian Students (YCS), Captain of the Rugby Team and an active member of All Saints Dramatic Soceity as well as the Student Council. MEC Dyantyi has a extensive community involvement, starting as volunteer at the Khayelitsha Advice Office in 1991. He also served as key negotiator for Khayelitsha Education Forum and Community Policing Forum. He served as a core member of the establishment of the Khayelitsha Development Forum. In 1996 - 1998 he served as Chairperson of the Khayelitsha Housing Initiative Forum as well as co-driver of the Presidential Khayelitsha Development Programme. The MEC has previously worked as the ANC Elections Co-ordinator in the run-up to the 1994 elections, as researcher with the Foundation for Contemporary Research (FCR), as well as on the implementation side of the Integrated Development Planning Process for the New City of Cape Town. MEC Dyantyi is a published researcher and some of his writings includes: "Young people taking the lead to tackle challenges of the new millennium" (1999), "Changing life of Khayelitsha" (2001) and "Challenges and Limitations of Public Participation in South Africa" (1999) which he co-authored with Mr. Louw Liebenberg. He has operated as talk show host on Radio Zibonele focussing on Community Affairs. He currently forms part of a READING GROUP convened Isandla Institute and Cape Town Partnership. |
