Mapping Services
DESCRIPTION:
Overview:The Sub-Directorate: Spatial Information Management aims to facilitate environmental information management for informed decision making. This encompasses the collection of data, and to develop and manage GIS systems to support reporting, spatial information, impact assessments and various information systems as required by legislation.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Services:

The team's key responsibilities are to:

  • Provide a mapping and GIS support service to departmental staff using GIS technology.
  • Acquire spatial data from sources relevant to departmental key policy priorities.
  • Provide spatial data electronically to Departmental users.
  • Promote the use of GIS technology amongst departmental staff, through direct liaison and/or GIS awareness events.
  • Promote GIS capacity building for departmental staff via its web-enabled GIS (an internal function only).

Projects:
Web-Enabled GIS:

  • The WebGIS is a fully functional Geographic Information System (GIS) service for internal departmental use only.
  • It aims to empower staff with desktop access to GIS for basic mapping purposes. Training is provided to users.
  • The data on the GIS website, as well as the functionalities of the site, is in a continuous process of updating and enhancement.
