A Green Tea with a Difference - Project | 110% Green

Our annual High Tea at Leeuwenhof has become a highlight of the 110% Green Calendar. It is an intimate event where a small number of our new Flagship organisations join us for a discussion with Premier Helen Zille at her official residence. It is a unique opportunity for our Flagship partners to engage with the Premier on what they are doing.

At our gathering on Tuesday March 10, we were delighted to host a number of our finalists and exhibitors from last year’s Better Living Challenge – and to hear how committed they are to continuing what they started in the Challenge and turning that into real, impactful outcomes. We were also joined by numerous other organisations, all who have committed to better and sustainable living in the Western Cape.

We also heard David Grier talk about his journey from running the Great Wall of China, to circling Madagascar and much more, to designing and implementing education, health and entrepreneurial initiatives in our poorest settlements. David has also designed building products that are both green and fire proof, and well suited for in informal settlements. These are part of the initiatives he is rolling out for the Cipla Foundation, together with Nompikazi Matjila.

Sharing and conversations at our High Tea showed new potential for networking for our Better Living Flagships and to extend our efforts to improve lifestyles in our poorer areas of the Western Cape.

The Western Cape Government is also developing two game changers under the umbrella of Better Living – one a “live-work-play” development on 22 ha of land near Cape Town City Centre, and the other focused on sanitation in informal settlements. Watch this space for more details!
